Planning for your breast augmentation.
Because Dr. Scarpidis tailors his breast augmentations exclusively to his patients’ unique needs, there’s a great deal of planning involved. During your private pre-surgery appointments, the two of you will work closely together to determine the following critical aspects of your procedure:
The type of breast implant
Your breast implant will either be comprised of silicone or saline. Both are completely safe and FDA approved, and both will produce exquisite results. With that said, silicone implants do have a slightly more natural feel – but to the eye they both look identical.
The size of the implants
The size of your implants will have a profound impact on your final outcome. As such, Dr. Scarpidis will work with you to determine how full you’d like your chest to appear. He’ll help you select a size that will increase your sense of femininity and beauty – while still ensuring a natural outcome.
There are a variety of incision options for you to choose from, and they all have their own sets of benefits and drawbacks. The surgery can be performed through incisions in the lower crease beneath each breast (inframammary incision), along the lower border of the areola (periareolar incision) or within the underarm (transaxillary incision.) Dr. Scarpidis will help you determine which option is in your best interest, based on your breast shape, personal preference, implant selection and areola size.
The position of your implants
Another important decision, breast implants can either be placed under the muscle (submuscular) or over the muscle (subglandular). While submuscular placement will prevent rippling and provide a more natural look, there will also be a more painful recovery period. Conversely, submuscular placement reduces the risk of capsular contracture and is less likely to create issues during mammogram imaging.
The breast augmentation procedure.
Once the planning stages of your surgery are complete, your breast augmentation can begin. Dr. Scarpidis will start by administering general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety, before making the incision discussed during your pre-surgery appointments. From there, he will carefully place the implants to ensure a natural outcome. Once your implants have been placed and your ideal chest has been achieved, Dr. Scarpidis will close the incisions and wrap your new breasts with supportive bandages to promote an optimal healing process.
You will be able to complete the recovery period in the comfort of your own home, though there will be some restrictions on your activity. As such, we recommend having a friend or family member stay with you for the first few days. During this time, it’s important to get plenty of rest so your body can heal, and avoid lifting, bending and pushing yourself too hard. If you have a non-strenuous office job, you can typically return to work within seven days, though your breasts may continue to be swollen and sensitive for several weeks.

Are you a candidate for breast augmentation?
As long as you’re healthy and close to your ideal weight, there’s a strong chance that you can be considered a candidate for breast augmentation with Dr. Scarpidis. However, if you’re breastfeeding or pregnant, possess untreated pre-cancerous or cancerous tissue, or have an active infection, this procedure won’t be in your best interest at this time.
