Rosacea

Many people struggle with flare-ups of rosacea, giving the nose, cheeks, chin, or other facial areas a bright red, bumpy, inflamed appearance. These flare-ups are uncomfortable and embarrassing, and significantly impact self-esteem and feelings of confidence. At Scarpidis Aesthetics in New York, we employ the most modern, effective treatments for rosacea – and give our clients the opportunity to finally be free from the unsightly symptoms of the condition.

What Causes Rosacea?

The causes of rosacea remain a medical mystery, but are believed to be both genetic and environmental. One factor that could be behind rosacea is believed to be an abnormality in blood vessels. What is known is that various factors trigger flare-ups, including:

  • Eating spicy foods
  • Hot drinks
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Extremes in temperature
  • Wind
  • Sun exposure
  • High humidity
  • Exercise
  • Certain cosmetics
  • Some medications (typically blood pressure meds)

Types of Rosacea

There are four “sub-types” of rosacea. Each has different symptoms:

Subtype 1: People with this form of rosacea flush easily, and the facial area has a persistent red color. The face may have developed visible blood vessels.

Subtype 2: This type of rosacea includes persistent redness, with the added issue of bumps and pimples.

Subtype 3: The skin has thickened, and the nose may have become enlarged by the excess inflamed tissue.

Subtype 4: This form of rosacea impacts the eye area, with dry eyes, tearing-up, burning eyes and swollen eyelids.

Laser Treatment for Rosacea: What to Expect

Any facial treatment should be performed by a highly-skilled, qualified, board-certified plastic surgeon. With the face (or other area of the body) you can’t afford to be a “test case” or take any risks. Dr. Ulysses H. Scarpidis is a respected leader in the field of face and body rejuvenation, and has the background, experience and credentials to perform rosacea treatments carefully and correctly.

Rosacea Treatment That Works

The treatment is performed in our comfortable, discreet, private offices in midtown. You will be given special goggles to protect your eyes from the laser flashes that occur during treatment. The laser is carefully applied to the target areas, and the added cooling feature makes the treatment painless. The sensation feels like a minor pinch, but is easily tolerated. The results of this rosacea treatment are lasting. After a year or so, you may want to return for maintenance treatment, depending upon the extent of your condition, and any recurrence of redness, visible veins, or other symptoms of rosacea.
