Once scheduled for liposuction, smokers must begin complete nicotine cessation immediately. Two weeks before your procedure, discontinue blood-thinning medications and supplements, including aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and Vitamin E, as directed by Dr. Scarpidis.

Stay well-hydrated and avoid new skincare treatments. Arrange transportation since you cannot drive home, even with local anesthesia. Be sure to take some time off from work (3-5 days for a desk job, but potentially longer for ones involving heavy lifting). Stock up on soft foods and comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.

Your procedure will begin with surgical markings and possibly also documentation photos. Dr. Scarpidis will review your treatment plan and answer any last-minute questions before administering local anesthesia to ensure your complete comfort.

Small, strategically placed incisions are made under the chin or behind the ears to access the targeted fat deposits. Using specialized cannulas, excess fat is carefully removed while preserving the natural contours of your neck and jawline. The controlled fat removal process allows for precise sculpting and optimal results.

Most neck and chin liposuction procedures take between one and two hours. You’ll remain awake and comfortable throughout the process. After the fat removal is complete, your incisions are closed with sutures, and your compression garment is applied.

Days 1-3: Expect mild swelling and bruising, peaking around day two. Your compression garment should be worn continuously except when showering. Sleep with your head elevated, using extra pillows to minimize swelling.

Week 1: Most swelling begins to subside, and you can usually return to desk work and light activities. Gentle walks are encouraged, but avoid bending over or lifting heavy objects.

Weeks 2-4: Swelling continues to decrease, and you’ll start seeing your new contours emerge. 

Months 1-3: Final results become apparent as any residual swelling resolves completely.

Garment Guidelines: Your compression garment is crucial for proper healing. Wear it as directed, typically 23 hours daily for the first week, then gradually reduce usage. Keep the garment clean and replace it if it becomes stretched or damaged.

Red Flags: Contact the office immediately if you experience severe pain, signs of infection, excessive bleeding, or sudden changes in sensation.

The vast majority of chin and neck liposuction patients experience only mild numbness, bruising, and swelling, which typically resolve within a few weeks. Rare complications, such as contour irregularities or seroma formation, occur in less than 1% of cases.
